We all have heroes. People
that we look up to, they may be political, educators, someone in our
church, or even our youth group; it could even be someone in our family.
One of the most horrible feelings to have is to realize that someone
you know and trust, or don't know personally, but have a strong feeling
of 'hero worship' for, takes a tumble. There are good examples all
around us. OJ Simpson, Michael Jackson, the Catholic Priests that
have been exposed as pedophiles, teachers, there are so many examples
its almost overwhelming.
So what do you do when someone you have complete faith and trust in
decides to target you as his next victim? How do you react? Do you
go along with his or her wishes because of their position in the community,
and your circle of influence? This is what they are counting on. They
count on your trust, and your willingness to be silent. They will
even tell you afterwards that no one will believe you anyway. I promise
someone will, you've seen it on the other pages, but here it is again.
Tell someone you trust, and if that doesn't work click on the hot
line links buttons on the right, call one of these agencies. Some
of them even have teen agers trained and answering the phones. As
a last resort, call us. But please call someone, and don't stop calling
until someone listens.
Most of all, don't believe your "hero" when they tell you
it was your fault. They are the predator, the pervert, you are the
victim , and you will survive this. With the help of those who are
here to help you through it. Start with those you know love you and
that you can trust.
